EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Students are expected to attend
class prepared, be willing to learn and have a positive attitude toward
self and others. This includes being on time and bringing the proper
books along with
pen (or pencil) and paper. Other requirements
are:
1. Assignments should be written neatly in blue or black ink. Pencil is permitted for rough drafts.
2. Late work may be turned in until cutoff date. The best grade is 50%.
3. Be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings. Tardies are worth -20 points.
4. You are required to have a 3-ring notebook with all english assignments in proper categories.
5. It is the student's responsibility to know what work is required and when. It is the student's responsibility to ask for missed assignments and materials. Failure to complete the assignment promptly results in loss of credit
GRADING POLICY
Trimester and progress report grades are based on percentages of points possible. 90% or better is A work, 80%-90% is B work, and so on. Any mark below a 60% is failing.
Each student earns 10 points a day for participation, which includes coming to class prepared with materials and homework. Points lost due to absences can be made up by coming after school, or going to saturday school, or going to the tutoring the library. UNEXCUSED OR UNCLEARED ABSENCES RESULT IN THE LOSS OF 75 POINTS AT THE END OF THE TRIMESTER. Students lose points for inappropriate behavior.
Outside reading is 20% of your
final grade. You should not wait until the end of the trimester to
do your book talks. Book pages can be earned by doing oral book talks,
or by taking book tests in the Accelerated Reader program on the computer.
The reading requirement is listed on the front wall, and is as follows:
A=1000 pages + 2 list books
B=700 pages + 1 list book
C=500 pages
D=200 pages
A list book is either a book on the list given
to you at the beginning of the trimester, or a color dot book in the Accelerated
Reading program
at your reading level. You will be taking
an assessment test which will determine which color dots will be appropriate
for you. ( If your level is not blue or green, you probably
should not be in Honors English.)
OTHER RULES AND COMMENTS
1. Use common sense and
do your own work. Cheating is unacceptable. Allowing others
to
copy your homework is cheating, and both the copier and the "copyee" will
receive zeroes for
that assignment, make sure there are substantial differences between your
paper and your
friend's.
2. You have the right
to learn and ask questions, and the right to be treated with respect.
You
must respect others and their opinions, also. There will be no put-downs
allowed during
class discussion
3. Do not wait until
the end of the trimester to get serious about this class and your grade.
By
then it is too late.
